The Victory Huddle. The Best Feeling All Year
The OERFC season has been a difficult one, probably the most difficult on record… but when a victory eventually arrived in the fifteenth match last Saturday (16 March), it struck a very special chord.
Off the pitch I reckon that it will be difficult to find a more successful team. OERFC management have “built” the most brilliant of new homes…a clubhouse and event centre that would be the envy of many. And they’ve done it through simple hard work. If there was a league table that reflected effort, they’d be right there at the top.
So, to experience the joy at President’s Day last Saturday of our first victory of the season on the pitch… the joy of the management, the joy of the spectators, the joy of the players was, well…a complete and utter joy.
The photograph of the post match huddle says it all. The camaraderie, the exhaustion, the mud, the elation, the teamwork. For me this photo reflects the true success of this season…the birth of a brand new rugby club that will grow in importance within South West London significantly over the next 10 years.
I’m hoping the photo goes on display in the clubhouse to remind everyone of a great achievement by all concerned.
