Well, they say size doesn’t matter and so it proved at out Autumn Meeting this year. Although our numbers were down, our select band enjoyed a day of good weather (hard to imagine as I write this less than two weeks later with the radiators on!) good company and a good course (although it was a touch disappointing that the greens had just been worked on and we suffered from a sprinkling of fertiliser).
Never-the-less, not to be put off, the golf was up to it’s usual standard with only a few points separating everyone. Indeed, the winners and runners up could only be separated by a countback with both finishing on the same score. The winners (see photo) were Peter Lippiatt and John Ainsworth, which was a particularly pleasing result with neither having featured on the trophies in any of our singles or pairs competitions previously. There was some mention of an older, long gone, trophy, but the Spring and Autumn competitions are the ones that count now! They edged out Chris Finden-Browne and your Secretary (winners in 2017). Nearest the pin was won by Rob Earl and the longest drive was won by Barry Best.
Hopefully our next Autumn Meeting will provide equally good weather although we have not decided where nor when it will be played. If anyone has any thoughts of where to visit do let me know – we have already had a few suggestions!
Our 2025 Spring Meeting will be at Cuddington GC (Banstead) again on May 8th, so please put this in your diaries! As always new members are most welcome, and if there are any questions please do get in touch.
