An Important Day at Henley

3 July 2024

Tuesday this week (2 July) was an important day in Emanuel History. It was the first time that the school had fielded two boats at the Henley Regatta…one women’s and t’other, men’s. Both had found their way through the difficult qualifying stages. A You Tube video described the fact that a school had achieved qualification to Henley for both Young Men’s and Young Women’s Eights as “unusual”. It may even be the first time it has happened, but I don’t have the where with all to check that claim. Unfortunately the races did not go our way. The Ladies were beaten by four and a half lengths by Groton School, USA and the Men’s “easily” by St. Paul’s ….but what a privilege to be there, hey? Congratulations to all concerned.

Our roving reporter, Colin Doak, was on hand with his camera and notebook (see below) and we thank him for getting the photographs to us post haste.
