Monday 3 June 2024 was an eventful day for the Old Emanuel Luncheon Club. It is that time of the year when the Club meets away from London and once again The Hove Club was our venue. 33 OEs, friends and family were expected for what was to be the last of these events organised by Stuart Cameron-Waller who has ‘held office’ since 2010.
Despite the early morning presence of ‘trespassers on the railway near Victoria Station’ and the consequent wholesale disruption to train schedules all but 4 eventually made it all the way to Hove. A great time was had by all who made it, several of whom found ingenious routes to overcome the chaos. It was also clear that there was no lack of effort on the part of those that didn’t make it but they simply ran out of time. Special thanks to Alex Noble who at the last minute stepped in to chair the event in the absence of Andy Robertson, who was unfortunately one of ‘the 4’.
At the conclusion of the meal John Sturgeon thanked Stuart for his efforts over the years as Hon Sec to the Luncheon Club and presented his wife Gill with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We are grateful, as ever, to John who hosted the event at The Hove Club and also to the staff of the club for putting on a splendid meal and for their understanding and patience in what for a few hours was a difficult and developing ‘situation’ on the trains.
The next (September 2024) event will be organised by Alex Noble who has kindly agreed to take over as Hon Sec. We all wish Alex well. Details of the September lunch will be published as soon as they become available. In the meantime, if you have any questions or would like to be added to the mailing list please contact Alex on alexnoble@talktalk.net
